Desert Sky
Las Vegas, April 2009
So yeah, I went to Vegas. It was a big national secret because my mother was throwing a surprise party for my Dad's 60th birthday and he wasn't to know that people were descending upon the town to attend. Of course, since my mom is apparently not that great with subterfuge, he figured out that something was going on, but I still think he was surprised by all who came. It was nice, and I believe he (and everyone else) enjoyed themselves. Earlier that same day, I also helped celebrate my niece's 5th birthday at Chuck E Cheese. I don't think I've been to that particular establishment since I turned 12 and had my birthday party there. I distinctly remember my friends piled into my mother's Suburu and us belting out the theme song to Footloose. My poor mother. These things are part of the many reasons why I will never want to have children. Being trapped in a small confined space with 5 12 year-old girls shrieking about Kevin Bacon does not seem like a good time to me, now that I'm the same age as my mother was then. In fact, I'd have probably purposely driven into a wall just to shut me up. In any case, my cousin and I won some fine prizes - tattoos and straws - by stealing abandoned tickets, her kicking ass at skee ball, and cheating. It was awesome. I would say more, but the city made me sign a contract not to. Slogan and all that.
Prior to that trip, Emily and Sam came out to Seattle for a visit. The weather was perfect and a good time was had by all. We took in a Mariners' game, some kick ass Roller Derby, drank, ate, and all that good stuff. Can't wait until they come out again. Hint Hint. We have renamed our cat, Cassassin, after one of the derby girls. Oh yes, she can kill with her poo smell.
In other news, there is no other news. Still one of the vast number of unemployeds. Trying to spend my time crafting cover letters and scouring the Internet for jobs, but I believe I have a lot of competition and thus my search has not been fruitful as of yet. I may turn my eye towards other types of jobs. I'm toying with the idea of getting my server's license and living my lifelong dream of becoming a beer cart girl. I think I can get behind being everyone's favorite sight at the golf course. Plus, I hear you can make good tips. It's either that or picking up balls at the range. I mean, Free Golf!
The big bummer about not having a job is that the money is flowing a little less freely around here. And so, I spend my days trying not to spend. Less cocktails and dinners out. Boo! On the bright side, I'm getting really good at Text Twist and Facebook's Vampire Wars. Watch out, I'm a video game sensation! Or not. Heh.
Ohh. And before I forget, a friend of ours invited us to see the new Star Trek movie super secret pre-release showing. It was, in a word, awesome. Lots of shout outs to fans, lots of action, lots of fun. I would have a crush on Zachary Quinto (Spock) but I'm afraid that he'll cut into my skull and steal my superpowers. Although, now that I think of it, having an in-shape liver and the ability to fall down at any moment are probably not powers that Syler wants. So, crush on!
